Project Feedback

- An excellent and authoritative local research project – Judges from the Association of Heritage Interpretation 2017 Discover Heritage Awards - The war memorial is close to our hearts, and we are so grateful for the work you do – Holly and Richard Dunn, Inverkip Hotel - What a brilliant booklet, picked it up this morning and could not put it down until I had finished it. Well done. - This is a wonderful idea. So often we see a list of names but, although we can grieve for them, they have no deep meaning for us. By finding out about their lives, they become real people again. Congratulations! - Wow! We have both been sat glued to the books since you left – amazing! Wonderful! Look forward to reading it cover to cover but so far literally blown away by the level of detail – well done you! - Still reading and both of us are moved and humbled and living here makes you feel you know these poor men are so privileged they gave us the biggest sacrifice they could. Amazing! - Looked at that memorial so many times, thank you for bringing the stories of these men to life. - Hilary can I take this time to thank you for bringing this to our attention and for the work you have done on the fascinating publication examining the people listed on the memorial at Inverkip – Provost of Inverclyde, Robert Moran - Just spent time reading through this. It is so moving and you are right Hilary these stories are much more poignant knowing them as husbands, sons, and brothers who lived here in Inverkip. In many ways, it made me sad but I think it is a great piece of work that will make me think a little differently on Remembrance Day. You have paid them and their families a huge compliment by producing this book. Well done.

- I have the greatest admiration for the project you are undertaking and profound gratitude for all that you have discovered – Duncan Rasor, relative of Private Michael Anderson - It’s so nice to think others think about our loved ones and that he will never be forgotten and good people like yourself taking the time to make things happen will not be forgotten too. Thank you, Hilary is not enough, when I read your email it brought tears to my eyes – Kathleen Emerson, relative of Private Peter Culligan - I have just read the booklet on the Inverkip War Memorial. My niece only recently forwarded the booklet outlining your research project and I was thrilled at the level of detail you had uncovered from your research and very appreciative that the name had been corrected on the memorial after your extensive endeavours – as kids we were told it was a spelling mistake and should accept it. Therefore, I would like to thank you for this and will appreciate this with a donation to Erskine. – Kevin Culligan, nephew of Private Peter Culligan - Thank you for the update which I was very interested to read. Keep up the good work -Dorothy Rodden, relative of Private John Muir - The work you have undertaken to preserve the memories of the fallen in both world wars must be very rewarding and I am sure that the community and the families are greatly appreciative – Helen Stewart, relative of Archibald Stewart

Spelling Correction

- Hi Hilary, I have just read the booklet on the Inverkip War Memorial. My niece only recently forwarded the booklet outlining your research project and I was thrilled at the level of detail you had uncovered from your research and very appreciative that the name had been corrected on the memorial after your extensive endeavours – as kids we were told it was a spelling mistake and should accept it. Therefore I would like to thank you for this and will appreciate this with a donation to Erskine. – Kevin Culligan, nephew of Private Peter Culligan - Hilary, we want to say the biggest thankyou for all your time and effort into getting Uncle Peter Peter Culligan’s name changed on the war memorial at Inverkip. It was a shock to us when we saw it had been changed, it brought tears to our eyes….We are sorry we didn’t get to meet you to thank you personally for everything you have done to get the servicemen recognised properly. It feels insufficient to just say thankyou, but this means so much to us and I know my Mum, Grandpa and Uncle Peter himself will be looking down on you with a smile thanking you. God Bless you, you are a lovely lady, thankyou – niece of Private Peter Culligan

- Out of all the remembrance Services I have been to, that was the most poignant. I had a lump in my throat. - Thank you for your moving and fitting tribute to the Inverkip men who died in the two World Wars - Many thanks for your touching contribution to our Remembrance Service today. It was much appreciated.
